To become SDO you have to crack the PSC exam. After you qualify for this exam you become an SDO of a particular subdivision.

Eligibility criteria to Become an SDO
To become an SDO officer you must be of Indian origin.
To apply for the PSC exam you must be at least a graduate in the concerned field of that particular department. Graduation in that particular department is a must to become SDO.
- To become an SDO office you must be 21 years old.
- The minimum age limit is 21 when the maximum age limit is 30 years of age
- For OBC candidates it is 33 years
- For SC/St candidates it is 35 years.
Exam pattern with syllabus
The pattern for the PCS exam is the same as that of the UPSC exam. To become an SDO officer you must crack the PCS exam. CS exam stands for public service commission examination. PCS exam is a national-level competitive exam. It is converted into three stages that can be called as-
- Preliminary exam
- Mains exam

1. Preliminary exam
The first exam is the prelims exam. It is an objective type of exam that also carries a negative marking of 0.33 marks. There are 2 papers. Both the papers are of objective type and carry 200 marks each. To crack the prelims exam you must acquire good general knowledge as well. For improving your currents affairs you must read the newspaper on daily basis. It will benefit you to a greater extent not only in the prelims exam but also in the final round of the interview process.
2. Mains Exam
When you qualify prelims exam you are eligible for the mains exam. Mains are the subjective type of exam. There is a total of 8 papers. It also contains language papers. The total marks of the mains exam are 1500 marks. English is a compulsory language. Other languages you can choose of your choice. These contain many subjects like India History, Geography, Politics, Science & Technology, Ethics, and human interface.
Once you qualify for the mains exam you are eligible for the last round of interviews. This is your test where you are eligible to become an SDO officer or not and accordingly you are posted. You have to be very presentable as it is your test based on your personal skills. In the interview process, even your current affairs and general knowledge are tested. Role and responsibilities of SDO
- Maintain the necessary law and order in that particular subdivision.
- Look after the proper working and coordination in that particular sub-division.
- Coordinates the various functions at the subdivision.

The salary of SDO is different from one state to another. In one state t you might get some different salary and in another different. Initially, an SDO gets a salary of 23,640/-rupees without any allowances. As and how you get promoted there is an increment in the salary.
